One is a passport fee stamp - and the rest? Does anyone know?

can't help, but coincidentally, while searching some auctions earlier this morning, I saw a stamp just like your #1 on a passport.

hukli, that is quite a coincidence - after all, this sounds like the first time either of us have ever seen one!

The first one's a good looking stamp. I believe the text says, "Austrian Visa Stamp for Single Entry". There is a Barefoot Austrian Revenues catalogue but I haven't got it.

I'd like to know something about the cut-out stamp. I have one just like it but cut close to the stamp on all four sides so it's nice to see more of the original item.

I could search my supplemental stamp catalogue,
however these issues expose a flaw in the author's
listing.
He has listed stamps alphabetically under the stamps
intended use,
not helpful when one doesn't know what the stamps are for.

I think it would have been more helpful to list under
geographical location.

The last one is a Newspaper wrapper.

Hi stallzer, do you have any more information? I don't see it in Higgins & Gage.

Copied from the ISWSC Worldwide Stamp identifier - STEMPLE: Austria, newspaper stamps [Stamp].

Thanks, stalizer. As it happens, I just found a postmarked example in a lot I went through this morning.

Thanks stallzer.

I'm not convinced it's from a newspaper wrapper.

Your reference is right about early Austrian newspaper stamps. They had the words zeitungs stempel on them.

I wonder if it's from a document with a preprinted revenue stamp of some kind.

You very well might be right Nigel. My catalog does show newspaper Stamps and Newspaper Tax stamps but does not show that one. I would lean toward a Revenue stamp if I were a gambling man, Stemple = Stamp
