One of the benefits of SCF. I had this filed away under my German "what the heck is it" and obviously is a US BOB postcard, but I still am stumped about the German. Can anyone read it? And would anyone like to verify the UX9 so I can put it away in my US books. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff

I think someone is being invited to a meeting, possibly of a German-American fellowship or mutual-assistance organization. The sender and the meeting place are both in the Chicago Loop area. The sender is using the address of the Chicago Board of Trade, and the meeting is at a place that is currently a restaurant, and may well have been back then, too.

Is the June 1 receiving mark "B.O.N.Y."? Bank of New York?

[edit: P.O.N.Y.? Anyway, in looking at it again, I think the card might have been intended to be used as an invitation, and the sender crossed out the preprinted portion and hand-wrote a message (that I can't make out).]

Cjd - the original doesnt show any more than that top loop, not even a faint amount of ink below. The only other unidentified part of the mark would be the "2" and I don't know what that was for. So my long winded answer is "I don't know", but PONY would make more sense. The previous owner also wanted to check the cancel as you can see that's what he wrote next to it.

Hi, not unusual to have German on mail from that period up to World War One.

My grandparents where from Germany, they arrived in the U.S. 1880"s and 1890's. I used to live with them during the summers, had to learn German.

Many, many years ago, don't know if I remember any of it now.
