The stamp is cancelled probably in Dortmund. Probably a stamp used on telegrams , so it is definitly not a Libau stamp. Any information?

Libau is the German name for Liepaja, now part of Latvia. It was occupied by Germany during WWII, and the overprints were issued.

I don't know why it is cancelled Dortmund (Germany), maybe upon arrival?

Edit: I corrected the spellinf of Liepaja.

This stamp surely don`t belong to the `Libau` stamps. My catalogue mentions that there were `Germania` stamps with `Libau` overprints (Handstempel) used on telegrams, but no picture available (the telegram stamps with `Libau` Handstempel have a CV about 8 Eur only). This overprint (directio, colour etc) difers from that on the link above, and from those other Libau stamps I saw in catalogues. Thank for the infos.

There were Germania stamps overprinted with LIBAU in red in 1919 but there were only 300 of them! I'd be very suspicious of this stamp for that reason alone. I'd expect it to be angled downwards rather than upwards as Wadmalatz pointed out but I don't know for sure.

I don't believe it's a telegraph usage although there was a 23mm-long violet-blue telegraph LIBAU cancellation (not overprint).

Yes Nigel, that is the same descripton in my catalogue, only in German (23 mm lang, Wioletblau etc). I`m pretty sure mine is not a valuable Libau stamp (at least for the simple fact I am not used to have valuable items in my collection , and here I strictly mean CV). But if not`s a telegraph stamp, there`s only one thing I could think of (tertium non datur?!)- it`s fake. Another problem is I can`t remember from where I got this one.

My Michel shows the length maybe type 1 16.2-16.4; type 2 15.8-16.0
Type 1 violet only, type 2 red & violet

Scott state only Red & blue issues but not type variances.
