I am a bit uncertain about this one - Sagor, Dec 16, 1891. There is Sagor, Carniola, now Zagorje ob Savi, Slovenia. However, there was a Sagor in Galicia also, now Zagorz, in Poland. |

Ranizow is still known as Ranizow, but it is in Poland now. Current population: 2,200. Schonlinde is now known as Krasna Lipa, Czech Republic. Current population: 3,500. Check out the date - 11.11.18 - Armistice Day on the Western Front. Robert |

Here's a few additions since my last post in 2012. Some are obvious - Prague, Zwickau, Bohmkirchen (Baumkirchen?), Gorz. Others not so clear, I'll let the experts weigh in. |

Hy, I might be interested in Austria stamps someone have from 1850 - 1819. Those first Fiume, Rakek, Gorz I see here at this post or something simular. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. *** Enjoy with this Fiume without Fiume or Rijeka with all "corpus separatum" political speaches about "brothers and sisters," who maybe never come to 19. What will they once say at 6x atom & 9? I don't know. |

I've researched this stamp and postmark some more. The stamp was issued around 1863-1864. The union of Austria and Hungary did not occur until 1867, so this usage may predate the empire.

Quote: The union of Austria and Hungary did not occur until 1867, so this usage may predate the empire. The Kingdom of Hungary was already part of the Austrian Empire between 1804-1867 and of course since 1526 under Hapsburg rule. In 1867 Emperor Francis Josef who was also King of Hungary decided it was expedient (he had no choice) to let the Hungarians rule their part of the empire themselves. The Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 in German called Ausgleich = equalization. |
