I believe this is a forgery. The quality of the overprinting is not as crisp as it should be, the overprint seems to be above the cancel, and this squared circle cancellation is not a postmark which was commonly used on parcels.

Nicely done, halfpenny yellow. The overprint from what you say is definetly over the cancel.
