Finally, one I presume to be Biala, Poland though I have no idea why they crossed the L. I saw "Bialka" on a map, so there may be variants in spelling?

There are lots of places called Biala in Poland. I guess this one was in Austrian Silesia so maybe today somewhere in the south of Poland or in the Czech Republic. The letter L with a stroke is a standard letter in the Polish alphabet and sounds like the English letter W.

Not only can't I identify the town of postmark, I can't even identify the catalog number on these two. I saw some like this, but no catalog numbers, anyone able to help? At least they belong in this thread. - Jeff

That was pretty fast. Aside from helping me learn, I can now see if I can find a stumper. If there is anything unusual about these, please let me know. As of yet they are uncatalogued, so you are seeing them at the same time I am. - Jeff (If I am cluttering your thread with redos let me know and I will take them off.

I'd guess the postmark on the 3kr is Ottakring in Vienna.

The Hungarian Kingdom, as part of the Empire. These are my precious ones (part of it, of course). Envelope, coloured numbers in the centre. First issue 1874, no watermark. These are second issue, except maybe the first, later explained. 2 issue from 1881, with wmk- letters `kr` in circles. From 1890 a second plate was introduced- the triangles in the corners are blurred. When the 3 krajcar values presented, you`ll see what I mean.
2 krajcar stamps 2 major shades: one rather purple, one rather blue.

Pmk. First: Verespatak (now Romania, Rosia Montana)- there`s much debate nowadays about this little town: there was a goldmine (since Roman times), now a corporation wants it reopened, environmentalist afraid of planned technology (cyanide). This pmk used from 1879-1911.
Second, third Temesvar (now Romania- Timisoara), last one Malnapataka (now in Slovakia- don`t know it`s Slovakian name).
Still to come 3,5,10 & 20 krajcar.

5 krajcar. Have hundreds, but only a few on cover. And that`s too bad. When soaked, looses it`s true colour. This one`s on cover.

Pmk Magyarigen (now in Romania, Romanian name Ighiu) 1890 (yes, it has pmk on arrival too), june 20.
