I haven't had to buy stamp mounts in years so the last ones I used were split down the middle in the back. I need to order new ones and the company I use sent me a guide sheet that you put your stamp on and it tells you the size.

Unfortunately my stamps are to big for the guide pictures so I tried measuring and I found that they don't make a mount the size I need if I do the vertical first horizontal second. But they make one if I reverse the numbers?

Will this effect anything???
I want to make sure before I order them.
Has anyone else had to do this or come across this issue themselves?

Other than creating a rip in the time-space continuum ????

I have occasionally switched length for width with mounts. It's not that it "hurts" anything, but essentially your mount would have no bottom. There is a possibility the stamp would slide down and fall out of the mount. If the perfs are fit snugly on either side of the mount, it probably won't fall out. But if there is ample margin on both sides, it could fall out.

It works as long as it is a snug fit (for the split-back kind).

I have also seen large-sized open-ended mounts that could be cut to shape (Hawid brand maybe?). These are open at the top and one side, but still reasonably secure (especially if you are storing your albums vertically).

Well kirks if the stamp falls out I'll just use it to repair rip back together. Haha

Thanks for the info kirks and Smauggie.

Wow, What size are the stamps?
With the split horizontal this mount is over 3" tall.

They aren't big just bigger than the mount image size sheet they gave me. I believe they are 40mm by 52mm and if I go by the rules they gave me of adding 6 to 7 mm to each side the closest I can order is 62 by 60 unless I switch the numbers around

Hi
Another solution is maybe get some old stock book pages and trim them down. I realize the backing is thicker, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

may not be the most economical option if you only have a few stamps, but have you considered ordering the mount "strips" instead of pre-cut sizes?? showgard makes strips that are 215mm wide, and come in various heights, including 41,44,48,50,52,57,61mm. surely you can find a close match in one of those sizes.

Yes, my dealer will break open a package and sell me a single strip (if I have a souvenir sheet or large block to mount).
