Thanks, 22crows. Does it say what colour it is? Mine looks grey-purple.

I'm intrigued that a 'POSTES OTTOMANES' stamp was postally used in 1926.

It doesn't appear to be listed in my Gibbons Simplified.

Another Stanley Gibbons simplified user....

we empathise, using these is hell on earth
a great example of how NOT to do something,
They should be banned.
"Simplified" does not mean the year of the stamp issue
has to change, nor the colour!

Rod222 the extract you show looks a lot like SG - Part 19 Middle East, so perhaps Stanley Gibbons does have the information after all!

It may be helpful to differentiate between simplified catalogues like Scott and SG SOTW and the specialised publications issued by SG and Michel.

It also looks like the extract was from an advance or draft copy with the "no wrap" instructions to the type-setter, ensuring that the T and number don't get separated.

Agreed.
I was very frustrated with Gibbons at the time, esp their treatment with long running sets.
Now I have Scott, collecting Worldwide is now very much easier, and I can consult Gibbons for the in-depth Commonwealth varieties.

Rod222 - I only have Scott for Saudi Arabia, and that only so I can order from ebay sellers using Scott references.

My SG part 19 Middle East is probably the best catalogue I have ever bought, covering most of my areas of interest. The recently issued Arabia 1st Ed., covers Gulf States from Kuwait to Yemen, and all countries in between. The other half of the Part 19 is due out later this year, but I will probably not buy it as there is only one country that it will contain, that interests me - Lebanon - and I have everything I need in SG Middle East 2009.

I also have Michel Gulf States (English) as it covers pre-unification Trucial States ("Sand Dunes"), which SG consigns to Appendices.

...and what a fabulous Tome that is!

Our member "Postmaster GS" sent me a free copy, as I collect the "Sand Dunes" I use it regularly. What a great gift.

Not just for the Trucial States, either. Michel also lists and prices Equatorial Guinea (government issued, not Clive Feigenbaum-issued), and the non-SG/Scott listed issues of countries like Paraguay, Panama, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Coverage worldwide of paper varieties, sideways or inverted watermarks, or imperfs issued for collectors is much better than Scott or SG Stamps of the World as well.

If you collect Germany and area, Michel is a must, but whole-world collectors would do well to pick up a set, too.
