Hello edw, you are correct that it's from Switzerland. It looks like a postal stationery cut-out, which explains why it can't be found in a catalogue.

Weird. I just unpacked some stuff two hours ago that was in storage and there on top was an older Zumstein postal stationery catalog.

This is a cut square from any of 4 envelopes issued between 1868 and 1873. They are distinguishable by format and backflap. Their cat numbers are Briefumschläge 7, 11, 15A, 15B. There are no listings or prices for cut squares.

The bigger earliest albums sometimes had spaces for cut squares, perhaps the reason this still exists.

Hello iStamp, Cut outs do not have not a catalogue number(thank god).

They are often to incomplete to pinpoint to a certain issue.

Having said that, your cut out is a P8 or P9(thicker paper, postcard) or the U12(thin paper, stationery cover) these numbers are according to the Michel catalogue.

Search parameters used: 1) value of 10 pfenning 2) no E on the end of Pfenning. 3) Cancellation date of 1882 on the cut out.

Kind regards, Johan.

That's a postage due stamp issued by the People's Republic of China in 1954. Scott lists it as #J10. It's common.

The straight edge on the Mexican stamp is crooked, indicating a scissors cut. This probably occurred when the envelope was open on the right side with a pair of scissors.

Interesting as the discussion is getting, it is drifting a long way off target. Any chance of continuing in a new thread?

You are not alone.
Chatting to the fellow next to me, at a stamp auction once, I mentioned in passing that I was a Cinderella collector, and I was going to bid on lot 42.

He whispered to me " Those are cutouts from a stamp magazine"

Creating clangers, is just part of Philately.

1. Lines through stamp images, as shown, generally indicate a stamp copy, that is reproduced to prevent copying by forgers and possibly a requirement of copyright?
Modern stamp images generally have an oblique line through the value tablet.

2. The paper
3. The colour (black and white in this case)
4. The border seen around the cutout was the definite giveaway.

Good Luck.
