Thanks for the help with the Indonesian stamps - them's the ones. Mine are mint hinged and if they're not scarce at least I learned some history. So the Tesla will wait - maybe if I wash my smart car . . . |

Great topic. I mostly collect Canada, but I am pretty good at using my Scott catalog to figure out WW stamps. This one has me stumped. Any ideas? "Post and Receipt" Some kind of revenue? |

Try Indian Princely States-Hyderabad.
My clue was the Anna denomination at the bottom left.

Good catch Al, I did not notice that. I will take a look now that I have a clue as to where it might be from. |

It's the 1930 8 Pies surcharge on ˝ Anna, additionally overprinted Service, SG O44, and minimal value, I'm afraid. There is a more useful brother to this stamp: Whether deliberately or accidentally some of these earlier ˝ Anna green stamps were included in the surcharging. Hyderabad is one of those philatelic places that tend to cause trouble for collectors. It only once put 'Hyderabad'on its stamps, for the 1945 Victory series: Occasionally they got close: which is OK, if you know that H(is) E(xalted) H(ighness) the Nizam was the ruler of Hyderabad. |

Wow tonymacg, thanks for the lesson. I love to learn about these kinds of obscure places.
While we all would love to hear that our stamps are valuable, it's the stories behind them that make the hobby itself so valuable and interesting. |

Hi Stray Feathers, Those stamps are indeed from Indonesia during te transition from colony to independence. Some of those belong to specific provinces, so it's pretty interesting to look at. Others are issued by the provisional government in Europe and as far as I know didn't actually go to Indonesia at all... |

Not the most exciting ID, and I apologize for the bad scan. Basically what I am looking at is the Sea Coast stamp with a black 2003 in the lower left and perf. 10 vertically. Now it is not SC 3775 because the 2003 is not blue. I don't believe it is SC 3785 because it is not die cut on all four sides. I am not sure if there are any sub varieties. |

Think I solved my own mystery with a little internet research. Appears to be a variety of SC 3874 with the larger "2003" in the lower left corner. |

The telegraph is listed in the Scott specialized as 1T5. This is a punched remainder with a catalog of 25 cents. |

Here's a series of the Telegraph Stamp with punched holes in them (excuse the scanned plastic strips showing from an old album page). The punched holes signify the stamps as "remainders" that were bought up by a New York stamp dealer for resale to collectors: |

Actually, the die cut 10 vertical coil with the larger "2003" date is Scott #3874 and the smaller "2003" date is Scott #3874a. |
