At least there are 4 perfins in this group of Germans: HL with a dot an extra do in the middle of the L, WG, JHB, and D over VS over G.

Ain't that the truth! I bought several "study" lots of French duplicates recently and the variability was amazing. A couple of the lots had 100+ examples each, and you'd swear there were twenty shades.

I get so frustrated with the colors, I just throw up my hands and promise my wife a new wardrobe if she will give me the colors.

What is up with the two Scott 187s on the bottom? I looked but could not find a reference to a darker shade with these stamps. I know I am missing something obvious (like they are two different stamps), but I AM missing it. Thanks for the help - Jeff

Keep flipping to 1934. These are the later photogravure issues. (The background of the portrait appears like a solid color, which makes these quick to separate from the earlier issues.)

[edit: I meant "quick to separate" once you know about them...

I think I prefer the typographed stamps. Photogravure was used for the 1935 KGV Jubilee set. It was technologically advanced at the time, I believe.]

Jeff,
when you need to compare two examples,
scan both and crop to printed image frame.
Using your image viewer and mouse, toggle between
the two, every minute change will be immediately observable.

will do thank you, these two on the bottom were pretty obvious though. Darker richer more solid color. Thanks for responding Cjd and Rod.

I have specialized in U.S. Plate Blocks and Israel Tab Singles, along with a few stabs at some topicals, e.g. Music, Maps, however, I recently decided to just collect worldwide (and avoid the dunes and CTOs), then print out pages and keep my collection that way. I have had some pretty bad bouts of philatelitis myself in the past, but now am content to collect just what I want and keep some stock for trading. I love trading! It's so much fun. Don't know if my comment helps you, but I am now rather more of an accumulator than a collector. Someday when I have more time, I will get better about arranging my "collection".

Right now I'm getting drowned on stamps, revenue/tax stamps and old paper money. My wife is working "double shifts" lol, trying to help me to organize this mess. Well, now I'm starting to think that the next time my lawyer call to tell me that I inherited something, I WILL NOT ANSWER THE BLOODY PHONE CALL.... :P
