This is a postwar issue (1946). I'm not well versed in Polish stamps, but according to one ebay seller it was recalled after just two months and is therefore extremely rare. However, the Gibbons CV for unused is only £2.75. so clearly this claim is to be taken with a pinch of salt. (SG number is 563.)

Jon, you might want to follow a current ebay auction for this item to see its real value (if ebay auction prices can be termed real value, which I would argue is generally the case):

Your stamp has much better perfs!

jderke, do a google search of "Majdanek Poland stamp" and you will get some interesting info on the stamp. Apparently it was issued in 1946 to commemorate the Nazi Concentration Camp near Lublin, Poland and was so controversial that it was withdrawn after two months. I see they are being sold for around $30.

Can anyone translate the Polish words on this stamp? I'd be interested to know what they say. Although the illustration is horrific enough ...

Majdanek was one of the extermination camps so the grim image is very appropriate.

The words are "Majdanek death camp" and "Baths and gas chambers".
