Hello, I don't have the Scott A-B catalog. Please identify the catalog number for me. It has no gum and is unused.
Many thanks
David

There are several issues with different perforation. Do you know the perforation on yours?

Is there any chance that the stamp has the remnants of an ultralight cancel, top center?

If you don't have a perf gauge, then a ruler will do...count the number of perfs in 2 centimeters and you'll have it.

cjd,
I magnified the scan and all I can say for sure is that there are a couple perfs that appear darker. I can't say for sure it is used though. I have looked at so many formulas for counting perfs that I have completely confused myself. I do know that there are 12 perfs in 2cm.Not much help I know. Sorry.
Thasnks
David

No formulas necessary, David...just put the zero line in the middle of a perf (peak or valley, whichever one works best for you), and count how many of those (peaks or valleys) you get between 0 and the 2cm mark. Voila! That's your perf count.

cjd, There are 11 perfs between the 0 mark and the 2cm mark.I triple checked it to be sure. Before I lined it up outside the perf and counted. Thanks for your patience.

I think you probably have Scott #40b, perf 12, red brown. #40c is compound, 10.5x12, and your stamp doesn't have compound perfs. Scott #40 is perf 9.5 and Scott #40a is perf 13, both of which are quite a bit off your measurement. If you take a fourth look and think it could be any of those, then...

Otherwise, I'm guessing #40b. This is based on a "fine" printing. If someone else thinks your stamp is coarse printing, then it is #33 light brown or #33a, pale red brown.

other than the measuring 2mm method of counting perfs,
or using a perf guage, considering the variables involved
with scanning and editing, is there any on-line guage to
determining perfs, based on catalogue sizes, then cross referencing the
image?...not sure if that makes sense!
