I can't even read the town postmark and the ones that I have guessed have shed no light. Does anyone recognize this TWU perfin on an Austrian 10 kreuzer?
Nigel, thank you, I saw the KOW but thought Poland of course. Thank you for the history lesson. I will see if I have any luck finding TWU in Krakow.
UPDATE: Nothing for me under TWU. I also looked at the cancellation strike again. I wonder how they would have spelled Krakow, because the two letters preceding the KOW look like SA. ?? - Jeff
Isn't the Internet amazing at times - a reference for an Austrian perfin from a Lithuanian website! TWU is described as a "commercial insurance company".
Much too late of course, but maybe someone could need these informations on TWU.
I'm sorry, but I have to correct my lithuanian friends a bit ...
This perforation was used already in 1899 until 1918, and TWU had agencies in the mentioned towns, but in Brno as well.
The three letters stand for "Towarzystwo Wzajemnych Ubezpieczen", (in German "Wechselseitige Versicherungsgesellschaft"), and the insurance company is still existing nowadays.
