I'm currently working through a batch of Japanese stamps and found many duplicates of the 1922 Mt. Fuji and deer issue. Before I try to offload them somehow, I thought I'd ask whether any who's able to read Japanese could tell me some of the place names. I've scanned the whole lot, but these ones here seem to be the most legible:

Thanks for looking!

Best I can do, because some of the cancels are incomplete or unclear:

Line 1 1: illegible, 2: Futamata, Shizuoka Prefecture
Line 2 1: Kanonji, Kagawa Prefecture 2. illegible
Line 3 1: illegible, 2: Sekigane, Tottori Prefecture
Line 4 1: illegible, Kochi Prefecture 2. (Matsuura?), Saga Prefecture

Thanks, tonymacg!

Unfortunately, these are the clearest of the bunch.

I'm starting to suspect that most bulk lots of stamps have been picked clean of all the interesting cancels before they've been auctioned.

Out of this entire lot of 500 stamps, I must have gotten only about 2 complete, legible cancels.

I suspect collectors are pretty well alert to the possibilities. I was once able to identify a Pyongyang postmark for a collector (http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopi...10&t=18971), but the chances of a repetition of that would be negligible.

Sekigane is a very small town, so it's possible that cancel is of some interest.

Now that I've noticed your penchant for Asian languages, tonymacg, may I ask if it extends to Thai?

I can't say anything much about this lot because there's precious little Western writing to take not of. The only thing that strikes me is that the lower portion of the cancel on stamp #1 says 'Nan.' I wonder what that means.

Sorry - don't do Thai; it's too hard. Just ask Rod222.

Sekigane is a small place, but it is an onsen (hot spring), so it probably attracted a fair number of visitors. Your stamp could well have been from one of those 'Wish you were here' postcards!

Yes the city is Nan, Northeast Thailand.

I used to fly to the Northeast to renew my
visa every 3 months, but I have never been to Nan.
As all of Thailand, it looks beautiful.

Thanks for the info, tonymacg. rod222.

Apparently Thai stamps with Malayan cancels are sought after. I have no idea how to identify them though.
