Any automotive stamp collectors out their interested in acquiring this rare 1966 "missing colour" error stamp from Israel? I had to buy the set to get the motorcycle "missing helmet" error. You will notice the headlamps are missing the pink. Regards Gavin |

The great Argentinian racer Juan Manuel Fangio and a Mercedes-Benz W196. Fangio won 2 Formula One championships for Mercedes 1954 and 1955. He also won in 1951 driving for Alfa Romeo, in 1956 for Ferrari and 1957 for Maserati. Either he always picked the best cars or he was a darn good race car driver. He probably would have won even driving a Lada. This is only one in a Miniature Sheet of 8 issued by Austria in 2007 portraying various Formula One Champions. |

Siegfried Samuel Marcus (1831-1898) was a German-born Austrian inventor and automobile pioneer. In 1883 Marcus was awarded a German patent for a low voltage ignition of the magneto type, and this design was used for the famous "Second Marcus Car" of 1888/89. Here is an image of a stamp depicting this innovative automobile, designed by Otto Stefferl, engraved by Prof. Werner Pfeiler, plus some photogravure, and issued by Austria on October 1, 1971, Scott No. 906. Historical note: Because of his Jewish ancestry, Marcus was removed from German encyclopedias as the inventor of the modern car, under a directive from the Nazi Ministry for Propaganda during the Second World War. His name was replaced with the names of Daimler and Benz. - nethryk |

I feel silly... I have on my lap a copy of the Scott A-B catalog (from the library) and not only did I miss this one, but two others on the same page that I have to add! |

Here is an image of a stamp depicting an 1894 De Dion-Bouton automobile, designed and engraved by Jacques Combet, and issued by Mali on August 12, 1968, Scott No. 110. - nethryk |
