Choosing/Finding Album Pages For New Collection

THIS IS A RENAMED TOPIC (OLD NAME - ??? PHILB AND BOBGGG ???)

I couldn't find album pages for Guatemala, Costa Rica, Columbia or Honduras on the Amos Advantage or Subway websites.

What album are you or your friend using?

Ok, Swabbie...i use Minkus pages..my wife bought me the album and pages through Subway for a Christmas present..i do not reccomend them the photo images are not good...afterwards I have had many chances to purchase the Scott specialized for Honduras, Costa Rica and Guatemala...they only have pages up to probably the 1960's but so what..those are the good stamps..you can pick one up on ebay for 50 bucks or less depending on the amount of stamps left in them..very few album makers print supplements for Guatemala..they issue too few stamps !!

All stamps up to 1969, including all BOB

You might download Costa Rica to 1940 free from

to see if you like the style. I print them on heavy paper and 3 hole punch
them for a binder. Staples has some nice high end binders $10-12.

For $20 for the year you can print all of the pages you like. I checked Costa Rica, and the website has another 145 pages bringing Costa Rica from the free 1940 period to 2006.

Columbia has 314 pages to 2005 including states
Honduras has 247 pages to 2006
Guatemala has 169 pages to 2006.

Over 900 pages, you may need 2 binders...but you can pick and choose in printing the pages through Acrobat.

$20 a year looks really tempting, and this would allow me to pick and choose the years I want to cover. A great idea!

Does it print on 8.5 x 11 inch paper? I have a high end color laser printer at work, but it doesn't print on oversized paper. Where do you guys get your archival quality paper? Do you use 65# paper?

It depends on one's personal taste. I prefer a creme color rather than a bright white. I would visit a discount office supply type of store to see what they have. Specify acid-free ( archival), I prefer 60-80 lb "cover" paper for my premium pages.

But I have printed pages on Xerox 24 lb. multipurpose ( 800 sheets for $7 or so @ COSTCO ) and it is similar to many of the inexpensive stamp albums. Not bad at all. So if you have access to some 24#, you might print some out just to see, but you will probably like the heavier. The Costco paper is acid-free according to their catalog pages. I print on 8 1/2 X 11 on a Canon i560 printer. No chips on the ink wells, just refill, refill, refill....

Also, if you have a print shop in town, sometimes they have partial cases from a job and can do a good deal on it. If they know what kind you like, they may be able to help. The prices of commercial printed pages are unbelievable.

Thanks Jim - I'll check out Office Depot this weekend.

OK guys. I went to Office Depot and bought some 65# acid free paper. I settled on a parchment style. I think it will look good with the black printing and colorful stamps.

I also subscribed to the Steiner website. I'll spend the rest of the weekend downloading pages. I just haven't decided what I'm going to collect yet. In spite of the Aussie vote, I've narrowed it down to Egypt and Central America. Decisions, decisions!

Let us know how you make out with those Steiner pages..i think thats what Bobgggg used when he printed my 1994 to 2004 Canada pages.i sure couldnt beat the price..he even sent them postpaid..the thing with these Canada pages is that most of the pages are set up for blocks of 4 or strips of stamps..i collect Canada used..so I have to piece together strips and blocks..beggars cant be choosers they used to say in the olden days 111

Phil, I'm tempted to drive in to the office just to print out some of the pages, but I'll try to have some self control. Monday will be early enough to see how they come out.

I printed a sampling of the pages today and they actually look really good. I'm anxious to get a few stamps hinged in to see what the final product will look like!

Especially nice looking D-ring types. So far Staples has the nicest, COSTCO
the cheaper for the big size. What is the name of the 65# paper?
