I don't have my Scott #4 here at work with me. Does anyone know if this was issued imperf or is it a cut square from an envelope. Can someone ID and tell me to take it straight to the bank! Thanks as always - Jeff
The stamp has the great classical look. I am no expert on Portugal, but it seems to be Scott #24 issued around 1866 as imperf, valued in 2008 at $70. There is a note that was it was reprinted in 1886 and 1905 and value such at $100. It does not say whether that is for mint or used.
Just thinking aloud, early Portugal had a thin barred killer cancel with a numeral in the centre. Silent thick barred numeral may be a device to invalidate "remainders" (eg Labuan) Having thought that, I do have an example of the 120r with thick bars but it looks like it still has the numeral centre. Yours seems to be a silent killer.
