Elman Labels was founded by Bernard Elman in downtown Washington, DC in 1934. Bernard and his small team started first by selling labels "door to door." This developed into a small local enterprise. In the late 1940s, Marvin D Bortz joined his father-in-law and began to broaden the focus of Elman Labels. In 1953, Berneard Elman passed away and his son, Stanley Elman, joined the growing business. Stan Elman and Marvin Bortz were partners for over thirty five years during which Elman Labels enjoyed many years of wonderful growth. The team of Elman and Bortz built a solid business by dedicating themselves to provide a quality product with competitive prices and a "hands on" approach to servicing their accounts regardless of size. The Elman product line became more diversified: in addition to selling labels our company became a wholesale distributor of retail packaging supplies to retailers throughout the mid-Atlantic region. And here we are a few more generations later and Bernard's grandson, James Bortz, is running the company. And as of 2004 and 2007, James' two children, David and Jennifer (respectively), joined the business.
