In February of 1953, Elmer Brasher received a drunken driving citation in Socorro, New Mexico. Ultimately, this resulted in Socorro's secession from the United States. Get the full story at:

Here are two patriotic (propaganda) labels from Germany of the World War I era. The first one (26mm x 34.5mm) depicts Mehmed V, the penultimate Ottoman sultan. Mehmed V declared jihad on the allies on the 14th of November, 1914. The second label (44mm x 61mm) simply states "the holy war!" and shows frightened soldiers from Scotland, France, and Russia.

Interesting. A key hope of the Germans was that the "holy war" would create difficulties for Britain amongst India's Muslim population, which did not prove to be the case. Indeed, part of the Ottoman Empire's own Muslim population, in the Hijaz, formed the basis of the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule.

An Esperanto card, bearing an Esperanto cinderella, circulated from Bulgaria to Sabadell (Catalonia) on December 1956.





By then, during Franco's dictatorship, getting an Esperanto written postcard from a comunist country, could mean getting also "a visit" or a call from the Police, to find out "what bussiness did you have with the reds".
No joke, at all!

Here is a rare tied Poughkeepsie Christmas Seal from 1908. They copied the design from the 1908 National Christmas Seal.
