Well, the time has come, I have proved to my husband this is not something that is going away, and my passion for stamps is only growing. I'm running out of stamps to soak/sort! and albums to put them in haha! Any advice from you guys to point me in the right direction for a small, unpicked/ or at least quality source for kiloware world mix?? I have about, and dont laugh its my first time!, $35 cdn right now for this. Should I wait until I can gather more funds? Or is this a reasonable start? Any input/advice would be wonderful. Thanks guys! ~Ash

lux1228, go onto ebay stamps, click on Worldwide and search using "Kiloware". There are lots of offerings at a reasonable price however watch the shipping costs. |

lux1228, Are you after on or off paper ? I can offer you either, with minimum postage costs for 999gms [$6]. I guarantee you won't be disappointed, and if you are, you can send them back to me and I'll pay the postage ! email me if interested. Or not, Londonbus1....must lighten the load |

Thank you Londonbus1! I just took an aimless shot in the dark and put a bid in on ebay for a "box of superb world charity stamps-unpicked kiloware" for a measly 1.00 GBP...we'll see what happens...auction ends in 5 days. If this doesn't work out (since I'm already bound by the hubbys credit card, hehe) I would much rather take you up on your offer! Was hoping to get response from SCF members, but got too excited and jumped the gun a little too quick me thinks. I will keep this offer in mind. Thank you very much :) ~Ash |

...and personally, I prefer "on paper"...as I enjoy the time spent with them during the process of sorting/soaking/drying and placing :) ...but there's nothing wrong with some off paper in the mix too ;) |

Just say the word, no problem either way.
Good luck with the bid.

lux1228, if you are going to the NS stamp club meeting this April (you mentioned elsewhere you will be going sometime) they usually have auctions that are reasonable or cheap. Cash though. They had some Canada a few months ago, I have not gone for a month or two (weather, me sick) but I hope to this time. Visitors welcome and you can buy also I think. Website: http://www.nsstampclub.ca/index.htmlMeeting Information The Nova Scotia Stamp Club holds regular meetings on the second Tuesday of the Month (except July and August) from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Place: The Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History 1747 Summer Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3H 3A6 Canada Next meeting Tuesday evening, March 8, 2011. If you are desperate for some world kiloware I can bring some along for you. Not tubs and tubs but a good handful or two anyway. Not sure how much you require? That lot on ebay looks good by the way. I like kiloware myself but tend to enjoy the buying too much rather than the soaking and such. |

Puzzler....enjoy the Stamp Club meet. Quote: Ash, I have more world than I know what to do with, send me an email with address! I will send all the flags I have, just don't tell londonbus1 Ash, Mr Lovell is only joking. He always gives me first refusal on Flags. If he decieves me and you receive some or all of his lovely Flag stamps, please tell him I will not only withhold the $3 I owe him, but will be on the first available flight to the USA to find out what's going on. Thank you all for your kind offers Before I get myself too deep in stamp purchasing, I will wait to see if I win my first lot from ebay. Puzzler- I would LOVE to go to the meeting! However, explaining to the husband I'm taking an evening off from cooking dinner and taking care of the kids to go to a stamp club meeting, I'm sure he'd be less than thrilled, and he'd have to bring me, after the kids are in bed Are there many young people that attend? Ill admit I'm nervous about showing up by my lonesome full of tattoos...I may, er, stand out a little and would prefer not to hahaha! I have thought about this often. I will, someday make it to one though! I've promised myself! Londonbus & Jhlovell- You little devils! I wasn't aware of your SCF rivalry...I'll have to hang around here a bit longer to catch on to your sarcasm You guys are amazing here at SCF,...I think I say this everyday! Thanks once again for the kindness! ~Ash |

Lux, it's up to you of course in the end. The meeting has mostly older folks I think and can be a bit meeting-like but I am sure I would not be talking for all there.
There is another group that meets just to sell their own stock books of stamps at Bloomfield Centre called Friends of Philately on a night every month (not sure of time, have to check) as they found the stamp club too clubby or something. Not sure, haven't been yet myself. They say stamps are usually 10c each or so, again not sure, but that sounds good to me. Probably better prices for better items I would imagine.
I get you on the not standing out, I do not like to either.
There is also the stamp show at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in September that runs for a weekend and has displays (wow) and dealers at tables around a big room. Not too big, The kids would probably like that also if they are of an age to get into stamps. The Stamp Club usually has a table there where stamps are reasonably priced (although I couldn't get to the books last time, someone drove me and I was on his schedule). One takes what one can get sometimes and it is all good.
Also I could pop some in the mail for you, email if interested. |
