My wife and I both just got back into collecting stamps after about a decade away. I collect U.S., that's easy, but she collects Japan and she's been having a heck of a time finding any dealers anywhere that handle Japanese stamps. Online has been no help, the only sites she's come up with are old and defunct.
Anyone have any suggestions? She used to get good results at local stamp shows, but those seem to be gone too.
Thanks for any ideas.

Cephus-- I'm sure there are a few on here that collect Japan and would be happy to help out. I almost bought a couple old lots of Japan but deided I have a hard enough time understanding my own country. Definatly would be an interesting study if I could decipher half of what I was looking at. Good to see a Husband and wife tag team on same hobby. Once you hit the 50 post mark you can buy sell or trade here but delcampe bidstart and good ole ebay are best bets for buying and someone else will chime in with good references I'm sure. |

I just took a quick look at Michael Rogers and he looks like more of an auction site. His list had a very limited selection of Japanese stamps, mostly the higher values. I shot the link over to my wife though so she can look at it. How can there be nobody on the planet that just offers Japanese stamps for sale, like every other country on the planet? |

There seems to be an abundance of Japan / (French Japon) lots on ebay and BidStart and DelCampe. Perhaps that is where the dealers have all gone to? |

There are not that many specialty Japanese dealers, as the Japanese market has been pretty stagnant for the past 2 decades. However, there are many sellers out there with a little of this and a little of that.
Could you be more specific about which era/type of Japanese stamps you are interested in? For example, classic era or contemporary, mint or used, singles or sheets... I do know of a few sellers with Japanese stamp holdings, but would need to know specifics in order to possibly suggest a seller. They usually don't list the Japanese stamps, because the listing often just sits there generating fees. Even when I bid, I find more often than not that I am the only bidder. |

Hi Cephus, Quote: How can there be nobody on the planet that just offers Japanese stamps for sale, like every other country on the planet? Selling Japanese stamps only may not be profitable for a lot of dealers. I Googled japanese stamps for sale and got the following links: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...+stampsHope the list will help a little. Jerry B |

It doesn't even have to be just Japanese stamps that they sell, I can't find anyone who sells Japanese stamps at all. It's all auctions, no direct retail sales. I'd like someone that we can get a price list from and just buy at set prices. She's collecting MNH across all of Japan, but since she has a lot of stamps that she never put into her albums before she stopped collecting the last time, she's got a lot of time to work before she's worried about getting more, I guess. |

Cephus, Your wife may want to take a look at Stamps2Go ( http://www.stamps2go.com ) -- it is all direct sales (with a $1.00 per dealer cap on S&H) and they're currently showing over 9,000 items for Japan. She should also be able to find "store items" on bidstart and ebay that are available for direct purchase. Steve |

Quote: She's collecting MNH across all of Japan I have a friend who sells MNH Japan. He is in a middle of a cross-country move right now, so his store listings are all temporarily closed. But I will send him an email with a link to this thread. k |

Thanks, I'm sending all the links to my wife so she can take a look. I know she's just placed a couple of bids on ebay, we'll see how things go. Maybe I just miss the good old days of collecting when there was a stamp shop on every corner and there were more dealers than you could count. |

While looking at the Japan Post website, I found that there is no English version of their website. And they don't seem to ship stamps anywhere but Japan. I wonder why that is, since so many other countries do. I also looked online for dealers in new issue Japanese stamps. I found 2, and the prices were nuts. They also didn't have much to offer. Why is Japan so darn hard to collect? |
