Very nice well printed set from the 1907 Madrid Industrial Exposition. The 10c was printed in 2 colors the red and also a orange/vermilion. Great addition.

Would someone refresh my recollection on spotting the reprints? I had a link to a site, but cannot find it now.

I picked up a set of six margin copies. Here is the high value from my set:

Thanks. (I didn't spend a lot, so I won't be heartbroken if you have to tell me that they are reprints.)

Most of the "Exposicion de Industrias" found in the marked are reprints if not just fakes. This issue is not a cinderella one but an speculative stamp issue, made to get money from collectors.

I just checked Michel, and it says the originals are line perf 11.5 only.

Below the main listing, it has their 'official reprint' symbol, and seems to say that they are line perf 11.

I can check Edifil later and see if there is any additional information there.

My 1996 Specialized Edifil copy, don't even catalogues this issue. I've a copy of the 2004 normal Edifil catalog. There they give a number with "SR", outside the normal issues, stating that there are some reprints with minimal value.

I'm sure that this issue has been discussed before. Anyway, you can see the original and reprints on the Witt site (under Spain 1907 Madrid Expo Stamps - 7 pages):

I came across some of these in my collection. Is there a catalog number or value?

I'm afraid the first diagnosis is real, reprint or fake. It seems from occasional discussions of these that the originals are rather uncommon.

Certainly, sets can be found for a few bucks. I suspect the originals float around in and among the flotsam and jetsam. There are a few threads here with some tips, accessible under the "Search" tab.

A pretty set, in any event.

Please let me bump an old thread. I have read about this Madrid expo issue in several threads on different forums, but I do no understand how to positively identify the originals. Hope someone can help?

I had quite a pile of them to work on, so I have sorted them according to what I understand is the best clue: any stamps that are not lineperf 11,5 are reprints or forgeries. Here's a selection of them, all perf 11 to 11 1/4 :

I ended up with several stamps remaining with line perf 11,5, possibly being authentic from what I understand. However, I think I am missing something, as I doubt that all of these stamps are authentic:

There is also something about the color shade, the originals are richer in color than the forgeries. Additionally I have observed
significant size and length/size ratio differences between them.
But which is which?

Some of my specimens are cancelled with what seems to be a 1907 double-ring postmark. Anybody knows if this is an authentic cancel used at the expo?

Any other indicators? Any help much appreciated
Jon

Q/ Does anyone know why they seem to be surprised to find each other on a stamp?
