Every now and then I like to take a break from my U.S. revenues and work on my pre-1940 country collections (I was a worldwide pre-1940 "accumulator" before I focused on U.S. revenues).

I've dabbled in Austria, Germany, and occasionally Italy and Switzerland, but the country I'm at least semi-seriously focusing on is France. For some reason I've always loved classic French material.

A few pieces I have en route from the recent Schuyler-Rumsey auction:

The last of the large souvenir sheets I need:

A booklet pane:

A nice cover... a philatelic creation to be sure, but attractive nonetheless:

That must be the understatement of our forum !
As an Exhibition enthusiast, I won't ask how much that set you back !
Hugely attractive in my eyes for the Red, boxed Airmail Etiquette alone. The rest I will dream about later.

A beaut.

Londonbus1.....suddenly dreary and dull

Well I'll admit that I'm waaaayy out of my element when it comes to covers, including philatelic ones. I wouldn't know what something like this should go for if my life depended on it.

Scott lists this particular stamp mint at US$500 and used at US$550. I'm not sure where a philatelic usage would fall though, or is this usage considered subpar because it is a manufactured usage?

Including the buyer's premium, I paid US$253 for the cover. Good, bad, or otherwise, I like it.

I don't think I will ever have such funds for a cover like this, but it's wonderful to see it.
The stamp in Gibbons is catalogued at £500 [$800], but the cover , Philatelic though it is, would be worth more than you paid in the UK market I'm sure. Well done !
A few points about the cover [that I seemed to stare at for hours last night] and which I tried to research a little when the drooling had subsided.
I wonder if the red cancel had some significance? Many big Exhibitions of old came up with red cancels.
Also, I wonder why the maker did not place the Air mail etiquette further down left side [above the Show label], so the show logo could be displayed ? In a hurry perhaps?
Lastly about the stamp and venue city. I cannot believe that many big International Exhibitions were held in Le Havre. I will try to look that one up. I found it unusual.
I collect Philatelic Exhibition material but non-postage [unless they happen to collide] and very often special items are issued in very small quantities taking up the price. Frustrating for a collector of my topic
So here is a stamp, overprinted for the Exhibition but in obviously small quantities. I find that a little strange given that it was an International Exhibition and the 'souvenir' was postally valid? I wonder how much they cost at the show ?

More research is needed.

Thanks for showing it anyway. It really caught my eye.
If I come up with anyhting, I'll post it here.

Londonbus1....will never be the same again !

One of my favourites,
posted on a newsgroup 4-5 years ago, in my response
to la Sameuse.
I think the owner is Mr. Pierre Albuisson (sp?)
but I am not sure.

One of the earliest Maxi cards I have seen,
but not sure if the CDS is in concordance.

A beautiful item.

Rod - Just beautiful. There is not a smiley wistful enough to express my reaction to La Semeuse.
Sigh....
