I won this auction for a Scott Platinum Album, volume 1. New pages, used binder. $120. I'm stoked! Now to find volumes 2 & 3 ... anybody want to sell them to me?!?

Interestingly, you can get recent supplements from iHobb, but not Volume 2 or 3

You can ocassionally find supplements on ebay (New Old Stock). I never buy supplements, though. Looking at these prices, it would cost $500+ to buy pages for a ten year span. I'd rather buy an entire set of albums at that price :)

No worries ... I'll eventually find volumes 2 and 3 on ebay. I just need to keep an eye out.

I worked out a deal with this seller to buy the remainder of his Platinum albums. Unfortunately, he's missing volumes 2, 3, and 4. I will be buying volumes 5, 6, & 7 along with the supplements through the year 2000 for $300. Once again I'm stoked!

Volumes 2 and 4 are now in my possession. All that's left is Volume 3.

I can't believe how long it has taken to find these!

Give Subway Stamps a call. They may have something back in their warehouse. Can't hurt to ask.

Volume 3 has been found and purchased!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/28089533107...refresh=true

It contains a few extra pages, and is in a red binder (I already have another blue binder), but after 1 year, 53 days, I finally have a complete set of Scott Platinum albums!

These are as hard to find as some philatelic rarities. And judging by how much they are selling for at auction, a lot of people agree ...

Related to this subject, here's a link to an auction for Volume 1 + extra pages. This empty album is currently ($255) about twice what I paid for mine last year. It doesn't even include the slip case. Ouch!

Does the Platinum album have descriptions? What's the appeal over the Scott National?

Unfortunately, there are no descriptions. Reading your other post on the album reviews thread, I have to agree ... I like descriptions too. However, I'm willing to trade off for quality hingeless pages. There are a number of things I really like about the Platinum album that the old National doesn't have (see my review)

https://goscf.com/t/17127

But to give a quick summation ... I love the fact that the pages lay flat, I like the clear hingeless mounts that open from the top (vs the Schaubek National Hingeless album mounts that open horizontally from the back side), and I prefer white pages over beige.

There was a short-lived Scott National Hingeless album that I have yet to touch, but have seen several photos. Every picture I have seen shows ugly discoloration from the adhesive used to glue the mounts to the pages. See the aforementioned link for pictures.

I'm still looking for the holy grail. Albums on nice thick paper that has descriptions and doesn't cost an arm and a leg like the White Ace albums do.

Aren't the new Nationals all three ring now?

All that was available at the time that fit my needs were the Davo series. Pages just like Scott except the lay flat design which would be a great plus.

My humble opinion to design the perfect album would be. Lay flat design of Scott with numbering order system and multi ring binder. The pages would be larger, thicker card stock like the Davo design. There would be descriptions for each stamp like the White Ace design.

Just wish they could all get together and get the best of each to make one superior album.

Sounds like a great combination, 1775Mac! Now all we need is a marketing strategy and investment capital. I'd volunteer to be the first customer!

I do have to comment on Davo, however. Aside from the obviously (no Scott catalogue numbers) I was terribly disappointed with how many stamp spots were not represented. If they could change those two, things, I'd be willing to forgo the "laying flat" bonus of the Platinum series in favor of Davo.

*sigh* One of these days, someone is going to make the perfect album ...

1. Scott National - Reasonably priced supplements, Scott Numbering, Good Quality Binder and Pages, NO descriptions, lays flat
2. White Ace - Insanely expensive supplements, no numbering, Good Quality Binder and Pages, Great Descriptions, lays flat
3. Scott Minuteman - Reasonably priced supplements, Scott Numbering, OK quality paper, flimsy binder, lays flat, Great Descriptions.
4. Harris Liberty - Reasonably priced supplements, No numbering, Ok quality paper, 2 post, non-lay flat binder, great descriptions.

5. ??? - Reasonably priced supplements, Scott Numbering, Great Quality Paper and Binder, lays flat, great descriptions.

Number 5 is the holy grail, and it seems it doesn't exist...
