I can't quite figure out where on the forum to start this thread. since it isn't specific to certain stamps. BUT it is sort of a "topic", so I decided to try it here. Moderators, feel free to move where you see fit.

Please share your slogan and pictoral cancels. Since the USPS has stopped using legible ones, I don't expect to ever get any nice ones in the mail anymore...

Here are a few:

Puzzler I'm from the Lock Haven Pa. area and the Piper aviation airshow is going on this week there. All sorts of Ariel Acrobatics and stunts with the piper cubs! Also, possibly Mustangs and bombers and such usually show up I believe? A Dr. that lives there collects cold war era Russian Migs and loves to fly them low and fast over the town! It's awesome! However, I'm not in that area now though.

In the early days of Yugoslavia, it was common for people to affix stamps to the back of the envelope, acting as seals over the envelope flaps.

While cancellation was by handstamp this was only a minor irritation. But when machine cancels were introduced these misplaced stamps were a major problem. Consequently slogan postmarks were introduced with the message 'Affix stamps in the top right hand corner.' Most slogans were produced in a single format, or in two versions with the same slogan in Latin and Cyrillic text. However this slogan appeared in a wide range of versions.

LEPITI MARKE
I GORNJEM DESNOM UGLU
Croatia

Serbia

LIJEPITI MARKE
U GORNJEM DESNOM UGLU
Croatia

LIJEPI MARKE
U GORNJEM
DESNOM UGLU
Croatia

Different setting

Boxed

MARKE LEPITI NA
DESNOM GORNJEM UGLU
Croatia

Bosnia

Macedonia

Serbia

Serbia

There are very few examples of preWW2 slogans (any, not just the 'Affix' type)having their use carried over into the post-war period; but this one did.

I am not conceited enough to believe that this colletion is complete. If anyone has further types, please post them. In particular I have been unable to find an example used in Ljubljana (or anywhere else in Slovenia if it comes to that). Can anyone with an example please post it - even if it turns out to be the same as the Croatian ones.

Bamra1, that's a nice collection of a small aspect of Yugoslavia postal history.

Cheers, Robert

After WW2 the number of slogan, advertising and commemorative machine cancels in Yugoslavia increased exponentially. But before the war there were remarkably few.

Visit the International Aeronautical Exhibition in Beograd
(Latin and Cyrillic)

Be a radio subscriber
(I.e. buy a licence)

On mailings to Beograd, write the Area

On mailings to Beograd, write the [...] and the area number
(Help with this and any other missing words would be appreciated.)

On mailings to [... ...] use the area number
(This is used in combination with an advertisement for Government bonds)

Use the Air Mail

Open a Post Office cheque account.
Open a Post Office savings account.
(Cyrillic and Latin)

Subscribe to bonds. 6% Government loans for public works and national defence.
(This and the one below are used in combination with the cheque/savings slogan seen above)

Subscribe to 4 and 5% treasury bills from the Ministry of Finance.
(Latin and Cyrillic)

This one I have seen but do not have.
Visit the Fair at Ljubljana

Finally a partial strike on a stamp, of something I do not recognise. Anyone have a full strike?

Since I don't (yet) collect the post-war ones, you can now sleep safe in your beds.
