For starters they don't look mint. There are some black markings on each stamp. |

Not genuine. Very crude. The seller should know better; fishing for fools. You can put this seller on your blacklist. |

Check the sellers feedback - he sold another "amazing pair" of Nepal #11 on April 15th, for $68 |

Thanks for your "amazing" insight into this bogus offering. Stampgal, in the seller's feedback he also sold a single. |

With a pathetic image of the stamps like that, it's hard to tell much more about the stamps than the type they're supposed to be - though the faded out telegraphic cancels are still pretty obvious!

So it sold for $US41. I suppose that, stretching charity hard, the seller mightn't have known these were telegraphically cancelled. Anyway, the final price is probably near enough to right for the item. |

Do you think the stamps are genuine Scott #11 (1917)? The 2009 Scott catalog lists them for $250 used, and that is for telegraph cancels, not postal cancels.
Or are you saying this is a later printing based on that design that was specifically made for telegraph use?
I don't know much about the red-orange printing. But the plentiful black printings are usually very clear except for the doubled impressions. |

khj, the image provided is so poor, it's hard to be certain, but I have seen some pretty mediocre printings of the ½ Anna (as of all values for that matter). Of course, with printings on native paper, the quality of the batch of paper can make a huge difference to the quality of the impression.
I wouldn't absolutely discount a later printing specifically for telegraphic use. However, Nepal seems to have been using stamps indiscriminately for postage and telegraphs at this stage, so a dedicated printing for telegraphs seems unlikely on the face of it.
Incidentally, I just hauled out my 1941 Gibbons Red Book, which still included Nepal among the Indian States. It doesn't list the red-orange ½ Anna. Curious. |

Tony, I also thank you for shedding a great deal of light on this subject. I never knew about telegraphic usage for these stamps and found some info on the web about this which I will sit down to read later. For your info, the below link talks about Telegraphic Usage (See Page 9 - 05 NFS The Classic Designs - Telegraph Printings - 1917 - 1930) http://www.nepalstamps.com/my_exhibit_-_frame_9 |
