"Here is an image of an airmail stamp celebrating motorcycling, combined engraved and lithography (Dai Nippon Printing Co., Japan), and issued by Nicaragua on December 12, 1963 as one of a set of 13 "sports" stamps, Scott No. C530. I'm reasonable certain that motorcycling is not yet an Olympic event.

Oddly enough this is one of at least two stamps with motorcycles and Olympics! Also oddly enough from memory (can't be bothered to google it..) motorcycling was an event at an Olympics I think in the 1930's?

Hi Gavin,
That is not the one I was thinking of but I did not know of that one either. Do you also have a Moto Guzzi stamp from the Maldives? The denomination is RF7 and it was released in 2000. A 1928 Moto Guzzi 500 is depicted on it? I have seen a photo of it but cannot find it anywhere.
The Nederlands one I was originally looking for is vertical stamp with the Galletto and rider head on. It is quite a dark green. Older than the one you have, at a guess.
Could you tell me where you got your Netherlands stamp from or would you have a spare?
I see you got the Italian Propaganda stamp. I have seen a couple for sale but it will be the last one I get as I cant force my hands that deep in my pockets.

This stamp from the Netherlands is a personalized stamp, meaning that you send a pic via the website to the postal authority and they print any desired amount of stamps with that pic. In the upper left corner it says: "Motor Filatelisten Nederland", which is an association of collectors of stamps (and other items) showing motorbikes: http://www.mfnl.nl/If you click on "20 Persoonlijke zegels toegevoegd", then on "Zoeken", you get all 751 personal motorbike stamps. The basic stamp has been issued on January 2, 2013, and shows an ice-skater (gummed version)and a squirrel (self-adhesive version). Klaus Edit: Delcampe has a section for personalized stamps from the Netherlands: http://www.delcampe.net/page/list/l...fmarken.html |

Thank you for that Klaus..
I think I will pass on the personalised stamps and stick with the post office issued stamps. There could be no end to the personalised stamps.
What are they used for?

Steve, what are they used for? I would use them for normal postage, but maybe some are having them made only for their collection. As fas as the online-catalogue can tell, there is no stamp depicting a German Wheel so personalized stamps would be means to have one. Klaus |

If they can be used for normal postage I think I will include them in my collection.
They are a bit of an oddity and I doubt if there are that many Moto Guzzi ones.

"Do you also have a Moto Guzzi stamp from the Maldives? The denomination is RF7 and it was released in 2000. A 1928 Moto Guzzi 500 is depicted on it?" Yup I have that one.
"Could you tell me where you got your Netherlands stamp from or would you have a spare?" Contact me direct at gavinnz@xtra.co.nz and I can sort you out with one. I have not checked but I might have others spare that you might not yet have.
"I see you got the Italian Propaganda stamp. I have seen a couple for sale but it will be the last one I get as I cant force my hands that deep in my pockets." The price can vary a lot on those so shop around and one will turn up that does not make you faint!

Gavin:
With regard to your Italian WWI cover on page 15 of this thread, the motorcyclist's name is Angelo Baldini (not Baldwin) and the letter is addressed to "Famiglia Baldini", which means The Baldini Family.
Cheers. |

Here is an image of a postage due stamp depicting a motorcycle courier, designed by Bernard Minne, engraved by Raoul Serres, and issued by Monaco on June 29, 1953, Scott No. J55. - nethryk |
