I just got a little collection of old European stamps. Does they look to be genuine, or they are probably forgeries? Any comments are appreciated.

Filipo,

Row 1, 2k red. Austria #PR2, Newspaper stamp. I can't tell if this is authentic or a reprint from the photo but I question the cancellation. Did newspaper stamps use CDS cancellations? I would lean towards a reprint.

Row 3, 2s yellow from Lombardy has been reperfed and has what looks like a fake cancellation. It is almost certainly a reprint/fake, perf 10.5 made to look like a perf 14.

The 5c, Lombardy #1 on the same row is a little trickier. I cannot say for certain if is authentic or a reprint. The really odd things about it are the incomplete cancellation and the coat of arms being so bright, while the borders are dull. There were reprints made of this issue as well. This one is a toss up.

The last stamp on the page is a Wurttemberg 6k, green. Either a #10 or #16 depending on the threads in the paper. However, the ornaments in the corners are not very crisp and the letters all appear too thick. Without consulting any of the German Philatelic Society books on this, I am confident this was a reprint/fake.

Brian

Note : Bumped Thread.

Hi Filipo,
can you post a better scan of the 2 bajocchi please?

Here is mine, black on yellow green Sc# 3A
It appears by my toggling against an Italian example, as being genuine.
They appear to have a dot, between POS and TALE, mine has attached to the bottom serif of the "T"

Hello Rod222

Sorry to intercede here, but I saw your post and it reminded me that I have some Bollo stamps I wanted to ask about. So I thought I might take this opportunity to do so.
Are my four stamps ( first scan ) real ?
Do you happen to know the ID of the stamp in the second scan ?

My stamps are a newer year than yours is. But the dot after "pos .tale" is the same as yours in my green and yellow stamps. The magenta one does have a dot but it is on the inside rim between the 's' and 't' . The blue 5 cents does not have a dot that I can see.

Thanks
htx

Hi Htx,
Alas! you have drawn a real blank.

I cannot assist, I have very little knowledge on this topic, in fact, when I generally see a "Papal States" stamp, or a "Roman States" stamp, my eyes glaze over.

It is a VERY specialised field.

My route ? I use established auctioneers links to see stamps of similar ilk, and toggle them with my example, and guess if it seems remotely similar,
these stamps have been extensively forged

Auctioneers like.......

Your second stamp is an Italian Revenue Stamp, quite common
and once again, the catalogues available for revenue study are extremely expensive.
Early Revenues (up to 1915) can be had by the free Catalogue "Forbin"
I think Don may have a link in "stamp smarter" here.

Marca da Bollo = revenue, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reven...mps_of_Italy

Hence, like a lot of us, Italian Revenues lay orphaned "back of book" in our collections.

Sorry.

TIP: Possibly lots of info laying dormant at SCF here, try "searching" using the text on the stamp eg "Marca da bollo" etc.
See what comes up.

Htx

here is a worthwhile link, by Mr. Tony Clayton.

http://www.italianstamps.co.uk/states/index.html

You may wish to download this *.pdf which addresses, in part, some Italian revenues with pictures.
When you see the vastness of the discipline, you may realise the task ahead for collectors of this material
