The Luther Bible is a German language Bible translation from Hebrew and ancient Greek by Martin Luther (1483-1546). The New Testament was first published in 1522 and the complete Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments and Apocrypha, in 1534. Here is an image of a semi-postal (charity) stamp depicting the Luther Bible (1534), designed by Czech-born Austrian artist Alfred von Chmielowski (1896-1967), engraved by Rudolf Toth (1918-2009), and issued by Austria on November 5, 1953 as one of a set of five stamps benefiting the Vienna Evangelical School Rebuilding Fund, Scott No. B283, plus a photograph of a copy of the Luther Bible. - nethryk  |
