On September 23, 1982 Denmark issued this set of two stamps (Facit #s 790-1) to commemorate the birth centenary of artist, cartoonist, author and humorist Robert Storm Petersen (1882-1949). A Storm Petersen cartoon self portrait with his "number men" characters is shown on the 1.50 kr stamp.   |

After the death of Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin on June 3, 1946, the USSR issued this commemorative stamp (Sc #1049) in honor of the Bolshevik revolutionary and long-time head of the Soviet Union. From Wikipedia, "Kalinin (1875-1946) remained head of the Soviet Union after the rise of Joseph Stalin, but held little real power or influence. He retired in 1946 and died in the same year.  |

Here is Berlin's September 3, 1956 stamp (Mi. #156) commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of composer Paul Lincke. From Wikipedia, "Carl Emil Paul Lincke (1866-1946) was a German composer and theater conductor. He is considered the 'father' of Berlin operetta and holds the same significance for Berlin as does Johann Strauss for Vienna and Jacques Offenbach for Paris."  |
