This May 4, 1993 special cancellation of Lebach, Germany depicts Konrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer (1876-1967) and his signature. Adenauer founded the Christian Democratic Union and served as the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949-63.

The cancellation commemorates the 45th anniversary of Adenauer's role as chairman of the Parliamentary Council of 1948, and as principal builder of a constitution for the western zones of post-war Germany.

The stamp served as franking on an auction firm's mailing to the USA. Although this 2 DM Heinemann stamp, and all other 1969-90 Berlin stamps became invalid for use on January 1, 1992, this was not noticed, and was allowed to pass through the mail.

This souvenir cover of Gotha, Germany has a special cancellation celebrating Bertha von Suttner, who is also the subject of the cachet and stamp. The cancel indicates that it was applied on the Fifth Association Day of Thuringian Philatelists. Cachet inscription states, "Last resting place (of Bertha von Suttner) in the Urn Hall of Gotha".

From wikipedia, "Bertha Felicitas Sophie Freifrau von Suttner (1843 - 1914) was an Austrian-Bohemian pacifist and novelist. In 1905 she became the second female Nobel laureate (after Marie Curie in 1903), the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and the first Austrian Laureate."

On February 25, 1988 Iceland issued these two "Icelandic Celebrities" stamps (Facit #s 717-8) to honor native sons Adelsteinn Kristmundsson (1908-1958) and David Stefansson (1895-1964). Both men were poets. Kristmundsson used the pen name "Steinn Steinarr", as shown on the stamp.

Facit catalog mixed up the information on these two men/stamps, causing some confusion.
