On May 3, 1996 Germany issued its EUROPA "Famous Women" set of two stamps (Mi #s 1854-5) depicting renowned German female artists Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) on the 80 pf value, and Kaethe Kollwitz (1867-1945) on the 100 pf stamp. Modersohn-Becker was an expressionist painter, and Kollwitz was a printmaker, sculptor and painter.

Each of the first day cancels on the two clippings shown here contain the signatures of both artists, probably signifying that they were on one card.
