The Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) is quite pretty but very unwelcome in Europe as it has been since over a century in the states. This invasive species can do serious damage to many garden and orchard plants (here in a vineyard) and has practically no natural enemies. I remember all too well summers in which we kids collected them by hand from the garden plants and berry bushes. Stamp issued this month; fantastic illustration done by Angelo Boog.
