The flags of Austria and Denmark are said to be two of the oldest in existence and both have an interesting legend behind them.

First the Austrian as per Wikipedia
Quote:
According to legend, the flag was invented by Duke Leopold V of Austria (1157–1194) as a consequence of his fighting during the Crusades. After a fierce battle, his white battle dress was completely drenched in blood. When he removed his belt, the cloth underneath was untouched by it, revealing the combination of red-white-red. So taken was he by this singular sight that he adopted the colors and scheme as his banner.

The Danish one is more mystical.

Quote:
The legend states the origin of the flag to the Battle of Lyndanisse, also known as the Battle of Valdemar (Danish: "Volmerslaget"), near Lyndanisse (Tallinn) in Estonia, on June 15, 1219.

The battle was going badly, and defeat seemed imminent. But then, right when the Danes were about to give up, the flag fell from heaven. Grasping the flag before it could ever touch the ground, the king took it in his hand, and proudly waved it in front of his discouraged troops, giving them hope, and leading them to victory.

The myth is clear. The flag, Dannebrog was given to the Danes from God himself, and from that day forward, it was the flag of Denmark, and the Danish kings.

This was issued in 1969 for the 750th anniversary of the appearance of the flag.

Thanks for the legend of the Danish flag. It's a pleasure to read it.

Nice Bi-Centennial Label wt1.

Is it still on the backing Paper ?
It looks like it was on there a bit too long.

Never seen it before.
I guess there are many hundreds of Flag labels I will never see, though I often search them out.

That's a pretty witty SS sheet Londonbus, my neck though is still stiff from reading along the edges.

What's wrong with having town flags & coat of arms.

Here the are from my little town.

A new flag definitive for Israel will be on sale November 21st.
Issued in sheets of 25 with the bottom row of 5 [tabs].

Unfortunately, a second flag stamp will be issued in a generic sheet, so to acquire this one you need to fork out 27 shekels for a 1.70 shekel stamp !
It is not funny.
Seems to me like they have been copying Royal Mail !

First issue has no Phosphor Bands.
Generic sheet issue has a right Phosphor Band.

The sheet will be used, I assume, for collectors to add photos or logos on the adjoining label. This seems to be the norm now at shows and this will be issued on the first day of the Multi-National Exhibition in Jerusalem. [Nov 21-25].
The question is, how can I get a SCF 'logo' onto that label. How do I get a scan of the logo ? Ideas anyone ?

Londonbus1, why don't you take the SCF initials and use those? Its a lovely curly font, I think it would look nice.
