I think Gibbons have it in error, Ganesh would predate any "Flag" impression I would think. It is probably an Elephant Goad, although in this image it looks like a Royal Conch from Travancore. I thought this may be another classification of "Sphinx" but it seems rather the contrast, human body with venerable animal head. |

Well, to be fair to Gibbons, they did put flag in inverted commas. In the Duttia originals, the item doesn't really resemble a conch. |

Before Germany took it on board, it was/is a sign of good luck. Litho, Still used throughout the world, just dismiss the negative conotations. |

Yes Rod I knew that, just trying to be sarcastic about all the commotion when it comes to that symbol. A few weeks ago I uploaded on Photobucket a German stamp (1934 Government Officials) which has a large swastika in the middle and then posted it on a forum to explain the difference between this one and the 1938 Nazi Party Officials which has an eagle with a small swastika. Well within an hour or so the pic was deleted by Photobucket and replaced by something like this This image violates this Agreement which may be offensive, illegal or violate the rights of any person or entity, or harm or threaten the safety of any person or entity.
Ironically the didn't remove the Nazi Party stamp. |

Speaking of the US Postal service and getting money / circulation back up... did everyone hear the news that USPS is considering allowing stationary shops to print/ sell envelopes with pre-printed postage...(I'm thinking a Hallmark and American Greetings)) thing so you purchase the Card and envelope already "stamped" and just need to drop it in the post. A way to compensate for declining revenues? Also interesting re-invention of the embossed collection from away back. |

Great one, LB. Even better when viewed in the context of all the Bicentennial stamps of 1976. |

Yes Kirk I agree. One of the best sheets in this series too. Someone in the Wilkinsburg Stamp Club has a great sense of humour. Londonbus1...he'd do well to join up here ! |
