The United Arab States (UAS) was a short-lived confederation of the United Arab Republic (Egypt and Syria) and North Yemen (Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen) from 1958 to 1961. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the flags of the United Arab Republic and North Yemen, printed by photogravure, and issued by UAR (Syria) on March 8, 1959 to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the UAS, Scott No. 16, SG No. 686.

Color bearer and flag, designed by Spanish artist Mariano Bertuchi Nieto (1885-1955), printed by photogravure (Waterlow & Sons, Ltd.), and issued for use in Cape Juby in 1937 to commemorate the first anniversary of the Spanish Civil War, Scott No. 74, SG No. 78.

Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting the flag of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo, printed on yellow paper, and issued for use in Manchukuo on March 1, 1942 to commemorate its 10th anniversary, Scott No. 145, SG No. 141.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting the four flags of the victorious Allies smashing the flag of Nazi Germany, designed and engraved by Claude Durrens, and issued by France on May 8, 1965 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of V-E day, Scott No. 1121, Y&T No. 1450.

This one landed on my desk today. It came in a small lot of Test Stamps which I will show in a Cinderella update later in the week.

Some Flag Cindy's coming later but am having terrible problems with uploading pics to Photobucket and am waiting for an expert [Step Son-in-Law] to come and fix the problem.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting the historical national flags of Sweden and France superimposed over a map of Saint Barthélemy, designed by French artist Odette Ballais, engraved by Pierre Béquet, and issued by France on January 19, 1978 to commemorate the centenary of Sweden's return of the Caribbean island to France, Scott No. 1587, Y&T No. 1985. Note: The Union badge was used in the Swedish flag from 1844 to 1905.

Several pages to this topic, but after a very stressful day at work I've enjoyed browsing through and relaxing... and while I'm here thought I'd add this one from Germany. It says 175 JAHRE HAMBACHER FEST at the side, but I confess I don't know any real detail about the stamp or its subject.
