Primoz,

The flag cancels on the three stamps I included above depict an early version of the American flag representing the original 13 colonies. (containing 13 stars and 13 stripes). The configuration of the stars took several different forms over time and this is just one example that was used.

The stars were imprinted in white on a blue background and the strips alternated red and white.

Thanks
Hobsun

Nice Flags everyone and great posts. Good to see some Flag cancels too.

'DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP'

5 simple words were the dying command of Captain James Lawrence aboard the frigate USS Chesapeake in the war against the British in June 1813.
The words of his friend and fellow officer were used by Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry on his battle flag on his ship 'Lawrence' named after his friend. Perry defeated the British at the Battle of Lake Erie later the same year.

Having done a spot of research, I believe the Helms' series 'Confederate Battle Flag' is an error !

I checked a number of sources but found the answer in my copy of the excellent 1917 edition of the National Geographic Magazine [vol 32].

There, it states that the difference between the Battle Flag and the 2nd Navy Jack is the size. The former is square while the latter is ratio 2:3. The former also has a thin white strip around th edges.
The size of the Square Battle Flag differed between the forces carrying it.

Fascinating stuff.
Now who should I write to for a correction !

Jersey 1975 Flag as well as UK Flag.

Neat on the beach.

Flag on sea-shell, on beach umbrella, on beach lounging chair, on sand castles, on stamps.

I believe the souvenir sheet / miniature sheet that includes all four stamps, has a Flag on windmill on stamp sheet.

International Brigades

The International Brigades were military units made up of volunteers from different countries,

Fifty years ago on this date the proposed Maple Leaf design for Canada's new National Flag was passed by a majority vote in Canada's House of Commons. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Maple Leaf flag, designed by Canadian artist Harvey Thomas Prosser, engraved by Allan Alexander Carswell (vignette) and Gordon Mash (lettering), and issued by Canada on June 30, 1965, Scott No. 439.
