Putting all my russia in stock pages without cataloging and came across this oddity. I'm still perplexed at what exactly I'm looking at here but it looks to me as if this has been printed on both sides with back side totally inverted. However likelyhood of it actually being printed inverted is pretty small so this would have to be transfer from another sheet but to near perfection. Not sure if I'm stating or asking as this is interesting and would love to hear from some members that specialize a bit more in russia . Perf 14.5

I agree it's an offset, probably transferred from the roller (although people often attribute it to contact with another sheet).

I can't see your image, but it is possible that this was mounted in an album with a preprinted version of the stamp & bleed into the stamp over time!

This was never hinged so album transfer is out. How would roller transfer attribute the reverse transfer? I used to be a printer and know after stacks upon stacks of a job the weight and slight ink dampness could transfer but to get a perfect clean image that is nearly as deep in color as front doesn't make alot of sense. With the date 1909-1912 which printing method would have been used? Scotts list double impression but wouldn't that be for standard double impression on the front of the stamp?

Also the paper is or seems to thick that this would be complete soak through and if that was the case I would think the front would be not so clean.
Edit for bump-- This one is driving me nuts. Any simular such transfers on any other country ?

These were printed in letterpress. i.e. "typography" in the stamp world.
