Transvaal - 1894/1895 The Sets, The Difference

Transvaal issued set in 1894 and then very similar stamps in 1895 and 1896.

Other than the additional values the sets are named "Wagon with Shaft" (1894) and "Wagon with Pole" (1895/96) and here is why:

The designers of the original stamp, Enschedé, got into hot water with the government of ZAR because they showed the European style of wagon shafts (two, which the oxen were harnessed in between) rather than the Disselboom or single shaft which the Afrikaaners used, where the oxen are harnessed alongside the shaft.

Caveat emptor with these stamps as they have been re-printed and re-re-printed so many times it's very difficult to tell which are originals and which are the later stamps. It's easier collecting used with reliable cancellations (these have also been forged!!) which have a contemporary date on them.
