This SS was issued for the 300th anniversary of the
The Battle of Kahlenberg (Vienna) 1683 when Imperial troops,
Saxons and Polish cavalry led John III Sobieski, King of Poland
defeated the invading Ottoman Turks.
This was actually the second siege of Vienna by the Turks.
The Siege of Vienna in 1529 was the first attempt by the Ottoman Empire, led by Suleiman the Magnificent to conquer all of Europe.
