KuoLC5310 - Thanks for all of your great contributions to this thread! "Bavaria" is a monumental (18.52 m) bronze statue cast at the Munich foundry of J.B. Stiglmair between 1844 and 1850. As a female personification of the Bavarian homeland, she bears a sheathed sword, holds a laurel wreath above her head, and is accompanied by a lion. "Bavaria" is part of an ensemble which also includes a Hall of Fame (Ruhmeshalle) and a stairway in Munich. Here is an image of a definitive stamp depicting "Bavaria," designed by German graphic artist Prof. Fritz Haase, printed by typography (letterpress), and issued by Germany on November 6, 1987, Scott No. 1525, Michel No. 1341, plus a photo of the statue. - nethryk   |

Thank goodness The Beauty of Palmyra lives on in the Glyptothek in Copenhagen. She would have been destroyed during these last weeks if she had stayed in Syria. She was made of beautiful limestone and reminds me of a Persian/Indian princess in her finery.   |
