Stone Mountain Memorial
September 19, 1970
The stamp was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial in Georgia on May 9, 1970. The design shows the high relief sculpture of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson on horseback.

"David" is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created between 1501 and 1504 by Michelangelo. It is a 5.17-meter marble statue of a standing male nude. The statue represents the Biblical hero David, a favored subject in the art of Florence.

Constantin Brâncusi (1876 - 1957) was a Romanian sculptor, painter and photographer who made his career in France. He is considered a pioneer of modernism, one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century. The mimisheet features his bronze sculpture "The Prayer" in 1907.

The 150th Anniversary of the Death of Canova
October 13, 1972
Antonio Canova (1757 – 1822) was a prominent Italian neoclassical sculptor, famous for his marble sculptures. His artwork was inspired by the Baroque and the classical revival.
The stamp features one of his masterpieces "The Three Graces" of the mythological daughters of Zeus – Euphrosyne, Aglaea and Thalia - who were said to represent beauty, charm and joy.

The stamp shows the bronze sculpture "Ur Alogum" by the notable Icelandic sculptor Einer Jonsson. His works are based on Icelandic and Norwegian mythology. This work depicts a man holding a large shield triumphantly with his left arm while cradling a child atop of a huge sword with which he has slated the winged dragon slumped below him.

Tourism - Roland Statue in Bremen

The statue of Roland was erected in 1404 and stands in the market square of Bremen. Roland is shown as protector of the city: his legendary sword is unsheathed, and his shield is emblazoned with the two-headed Imperial eagle.

Egis Quirin Asam

Egis Quirin Asam (1692 - 1750) was a German plasterer and sculptor active during the period of the Late Baroque. He often produced in collaboration with his brother Cosmas Damian Asam. His work utilized illusionist decoration and exhibited great religious sentiment.
The commemorative stamp features a portion of his spectacular work Assumption of the Virgin in the monastery church at Rohr (1718-1722).

Independence Series - Lion Capital, Ashokan Pillar
December 15, 1947
The Lion Capital of Ashoka is a sculpture of four Indian lions standing back to back, on an elaborate base that includes other animals. The capital is carved out of a single block of polished sandstone. It was originally placed atop the Ashokan pillar at the Buddhist site of Sarnath in ca. 250 B.C. A graphic representation of it was adopted as the official Emblem of India in 1950.

This American Culture series stamp features the bronze statue Atlas by Lee Lawrie (1877 - 1963). The statue stands in front of the International Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City. According to Greek mythology, Atlas bore the heavens on his shoulders, and Lawrie's Atlas holds an armillary sphere which contains the twelve signs of the zodiac. The axis of the sphere points to the North Star.
