When I was teen, I worked in a grocery store. There were no "generic" cigs back then and the name brands were about 60 cents per pack.

I remember the customer outrage when the went to 75 cents per pack -- people threatened to quit. They didn't.

In 8th grade, my class took a field trip to Winston-Salem (I live in North Carolina) to tour the cigarette plants and see how cigarettes are made from one end of production to the other.

I understand they've now removed that from the curriculum

I'll send you a few dozen of them for $2 ea. My grandfather saved them for years is the 30's. He stuck them in a cigar box, they sat there untill the 1970's along with a bunch from the Shultie Cigar Stores. They are now in the same cigar box on the top shelf in my closet.

When I first saw this thread, I looked it up on ebay and there are no less than 30 listings of these coupons for sale anywhere from less than $1 to as much as $75. Hoards of them were saved by smokers/collectors of a generation or two ago and I guess they wind up sitting in attics or basements of the family home.

I was influenced by the Malboro man,
whilst Ronald Reagan was sending Chesterfields
as Christmas presents to all his friends.

You were "tight" if you were known not to
offer your cigarettes around, and a "bot" if you
continully asked for a loan of cigarettes
promising to pay them back, and never did.

I owe a large debt of thanks to my secretary,
who influenced me to give up the disgusting habit,
at a fairly young age. She is not forgotten.

I never smoked, but my folks sure did (thanks for the asthma Mom and Dad!)
I don't remember those coupons, thought they look pretty interesting, but I do have this card which was in a box of treasures my Dad left to me.

The card, shown both sides, is a 1937 offer from British Consols cigarettes. Send in two complete sets of these cards (53 cards per set) and get a free deck of cards! Talk about encouraging two bad habits at once (assuming the cards were not just used for solitaire)

I have acquired several boxes of Raleigh cigarette coupons. Is there a market for them, what is current value and who can I contact to sell?
