Hello All

We have recently acquired a glory box containing may commonwealth stamps.
In this box were a few 1d Reds, in the scan below I have managed to ID numbers 2 to 4 but not number 1, I realise that the stamps are probably of no value, but it has been interesting to find the plate numbers of the others, I did this with the help of
nr-notrare, scan posted back in 2009, for which I am very grateful.

Could someone please advise me on how to identify number 1, as this is stumping me.

Thanks once again in advance
I really appreciate the help I have received over the last week or so.
Regards and best wishes

Hello sd1964,

I am no expert on these at all but . . .

The stamp #1 is from 1880-81 series issue and in my GB Concise 2005 there is no plating info shown. There is plating info for the 1856 penny red issue.

It might be that there is a specialized monograph or pamphlet on this series that explains the plating (if there is any done that is).

Nice stamps, thanks for sharing.

Perhaps looking at some specialized GB stamp dealer sites may shed some light?

Sd1964 about No1, my 1903 Stanley Gibbons Cat' says it's Venetian Red issued on Jan 1 1880 with Imperial Crown W/M.

Value then - 3d Mint and 1d used.

Hi

Thanks for all your help, I miskenly thought it was an actual 1d Red not a different stamp completly, I have now found the stamp in my latest Gibbons shows an unused value of £22.00 and £12.00 used (both GBP).

Thanks to all again.
Regards

Hi,
Please bear in mind that the catalogue values are for a certain quality item e.g. fine or maybe very fine and also that you will rarely expect to be able to sell at the cat. value but as a guide it is useful.
As you mentioned they may not be valuable but it great to spend some time identifying them as you gain a better appreciation of the variations etc and the 1d red is a discipline in itself.

Hi sd1964
I have copied a page from a Stanley gibbons Brochure. I will help you get an idea of plate values.
