Hello!
Could someone please tell me the year that the German stamp was issued. It's such a pretty stamp but I couldn't find any info on it.
Also I had thought the other stamp was Austrian, but I can't find it in my Scott's. Am I looking in the wrong country??
Thanks for the help.
Donna

Left stamp is Bavaria (look under German States) #275(1920) in the Scott catalog. You have the high denomination stamp in that set, nice.

Right stamp is an Austrian revenue. It will not be listed in the Scott catalog.

Thanks again for the help! And now that I'm looking for it, I just saw the Bayern behind the Deutsches Reich.
Always learning!

A little more about the fine looking 20m black. It orginally was issued not overprinted in 1920. The painting on the stamp is titled "genius", and is by the German painter Wiilhelm Von Kaubach. The overprinted variety was then also issued in 1920, and indeed is the high value of a 3m-20m 5 stamp set. Apparently, although the stamps were available throughout Germany, they were mostly used in Bavaria.

I don't know about Scott, but the first stamp is listed in Stanley Gibbons under Germany (SG136) 1920, because Bavaria at the bottom has been overprinted with Deutsches Reich. The original stamp is Bavaria SG273.

Jim, love the Greenland parcel post stamp of your avatar! I think you are the 2nd or 3rd member to have chosen a Greenland parcel post for an avatar. Interesting! I wish I had the complete set, but they can get pretty pricey...

[EDIT: Silly me, I now realize it is one of the standard choices of avatars for users! ]
