I don't collect that era or country but I wanted a Penny Black so I bought a cheaper one with thins years ago that looks ok from the front, just to have one.
I think all stamp collectors should have one Penny Black!
Who else has just one for the sake of it?
I also have some Cape of Good Hope triangles for the same reason.. to me they just iconic.

Guilty - Twice. I got very interested in the plating of the penny black and realised you need a big budget for that.
"Do you own a penny black?" is one of the first questions I get asked when people are told I collect stamps.

Nope, Sadly I don't own one, but I been looking to get one even though I don't collect that country but seeing it was the first Postage Stamp I agree that it's a must have item. lol |

They need to make a drooling emoticon to cover these moments. Beautiful examples and love the red maltese crosses. I keep looking at various ones but then get sidetracked but it is a for sure must have. I have several reds and blues both perf and imperf so I know if I get that black I'll just have to keep going . Ideally I'd love to do a trade for one hint hint anyone???? |

I do not have a penny black, though I intend to acquire one in the next year or so. I also intend to acquire a Mulready letter sheet as well. |

Guilty as well.
However, I wasn't pleased with the black Maltese
Cross cancellation on mine and hunted for another copy with a red Maltese Cross cancellation which showed up better.
I know, call me fussy <G>

I'd love to have a Penny Black to add to my collection. I've told my wife that it's in the works. I"ve got
alot of the earlier Turkish/Ottoman Empire things and some classic US material but I've always liked the "blacks and reds". |

The penny black is so much of an iconic stamp, that I got one early on. That led to my interest in and collecting of the line engraved issues of GB. If there is a more perfect design of a stamp than the penny black, I have yet to see it. |
