Hello all,

I have this Wurttemberg stamped envelope in my collection.

As you can see, it has two embossed stamps on it. The top stamp is denominated 1 kreuzer and the bottom stamp is denominated 5 pfennig. In 1875, Wurttemberg changed currency from kreuzer/gulden to pfennig/mark. So, my question: Is the 5pf stamp a "surcharge" revaluing the envelope from 1kr to 5pf due to the currency change? Any information about this envelope you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Robert

Hello Trainwreck, I can't answer your question but I sure like that cover. I've never seen one like that. Very nice.
Thanks
David

David,

Thanks. The dual franking and the colors are what attracted me to the cover. I didn't notice the different currencies until examining it a couple of nights ago.

Cheers, Robert

These are described in great detail in the Michel "Ganzsachen" catalog.

I think you're on the right track with the revaluing idea.

The original 1kr envelope looks like it could be Michel U16*, from 1865, which was then redone with the addition of the 5pf to create one of the U25s* from 1875.

(*All catalogue listings approximate. Maybe someone else will double check the numbers to confirm...)
