So far you guys have been amazing! I am still looking through a collection and trying to ID them as I go. Man, this takes a while. Anyway, I came across these two inside a portion of the book labeled "British Colonies". Should be dates around the 1850's. Thanks!

When using the Scott catalog to ID a specific stamp, it is preferable to provide the stamp catalog number, rather than the design number (i.e., A#). This will avoid confusion regarding which stamp variety.

2011 Scott catalog:

left stamp is Hong Kong #44(1891), $2.25 used
right stamp is Great Britain #98(1884), $8.50 for used

Hong Kong stamp has a very well-placed cancel, often called "Socked on the Nose". In the GB stamp, QV literally has been socked on the nose!

The Hong Kong stamp is SG 38 10c purple on red (Scott #44 10c violet on red) issued in 1891.

Always pay attention to the date of the postmark (in this case, 1898) which will sometimes prevent mis-identification.

Actually, Builderr, your design numbers were correct. It's just the design numbers are typically not cited when IDing a stamp; rather, the actual stamp catalog number is cited.

And your ID/value was also correct for the Great Britain stamp (although the year of issue was incorrect).
