Hi All:

so I'm going through my stamps and see that out of the six 1921 Twin Head Eagle stamps I have (all imperforated) the "25 quint" overprint is inverted. Does this make it more valuable? Also what is your take on these stamps? I don't see too many of them on the net and I'm curious as to their value. These are all unused stamps, in mint condition, no creases, wrinkles, tears, nice bright colors. They don't appear to be gummed and the other 5 of the series have no overprints at all. Oh wait a minute, I just found another 5 and these all have the overprint of "Takse"

As usual thanks!

Here is a stamp I found off the net, showing normal overprint

Here is my stamp

Here are my other ones

These were never placed in use. They have also been extensively forged! The most common if them are on a corse tanish or light brown paper. The 1st 25 Quint MIGHT be real. The 2nd one is one of the Forgeries.

When were these forged?

I don't believe these are fakes, because my late father worked in the Biggest post office in the world as a supervisor, for over 35 years (FDR Station in NYC). These stamps have been in his Scott stamp & coin company book since at lease the 50's or 60's. I am trying to sort through his very vast collection of both domestic and international stamps.

Thanks again

There were probably forgeries made as soon as the originals came to public notice, i.e. back in the early 1920s.

What is the criteria that you are using in determining that they are forgories?

To the best of my knowlege they appeared in the mid to late 20's along with the forgeries of Azerbajan, The Trans Cauacasion Fed. rep., Bueno Aries along with others. They all are on simmiler paper and appeared around the same time. Their has been a lot of speculation over the years as to where they came from. I don;t thint anyone knows for sure or ever will.
But, it doesn't matter as they were never put into use and they are super common.
